I use 2x2 foot squares made out of blue or pink insulation board. I favor the 1" boards because thinner is easier to move and store. Here is how I made them.

Cut the boards out to 2x2 squares. A box cutter works very well on this job.
Get dirt brown paint, dark green and light green paint.
Get a wide sheet of paper. I use an industrial roll of paper towel but any 2.5 foot wide sheet of rolled paper will do. Cut out paper so that there is plenty of overlap on all sides..
Paint the brown paint on the blue board. Place the paper over it and press it down so it is in full contact all over with no air bubbles. Then paint brown on top of the paper in that 2x2 area. Set it aside to dry.
When it is dry, trim the paper so that it can be wrapped around the board. Don't forget to leave a little to wrap around the corner! This really strengthens the board and prevents damage when moved.
Next put a coat of paint on the board side of the paper so it saturates and is ver limp. Do the side with the corner wrap around first. Wrap the wet paper around to the back of the board and around the corners. Repeat this on all sides. Then put more paint on top of the paper. Let dry.
You now have a very solid, durable, light board base.
Next paint the dark green paint on very thick (but don't worry about doing it perfectly, having some brown flecks show though looks good.
Sprinkle sand on top of the still wet paint. Use the brush to scrub it in. Make circular strokes. This give a nice texture to it.
Let dry.
Lastly lightly dry brush the light green on top of the dark green.
Let dry and you have a functional terrain board that will last for decades.

I enjoyed this write up, especially with the added set up segment. It gives a little more insight into the process and makes me wonder what can be done with more "traditional" wargames like Warhammer and Warmachine.

Now I want to make quick, easy terrain boards.

Bad: Anakin fains being more hurt than he is to garner Padme's sympathy. At first she is taken in by it but then realizes what is happening and drops his head.

Good: The defenders fight their way out to Owen who is taking out his fifth raider. The fight is all but over. That is when they hear a scream from back at the ship.

The scene ends here.

Bad: Obi Wan then joins in and the three fight their way forward, Three Musketeers style. As they advance Obi Wan starts talking.

Thank you ever so much for your help but you needn't have bothered. We were fully capable of defending ourselfs.

No problem. I always enjoy a good fight before supper. That and I thought you might be wanting a ride after thefun is over.

Well... that does sound helpful.

You don't know the half of it. This is just a small raiding party I'm certain the main force will be here before dawn.

Palpatine interjects: More fight, less talk.

Good: Palpatine is momentarily down when Anakin reaches them. The young man blocks a Sand Raider blow with a raider staff picked up on the way in. Palpatine recovers and nods to the unexpected friend.

Bad Chris: Some of the raiders to to meet the farm boys. Before they know it they are locked in hand to hand combat.

Owen makes a good showing for himself. He is no slouch! Three raiders go down under his beefy fists. Anakin meanwhile weaves and dodges his way deeper into the fray. He is trying to get to the ship.

As they approach the landing site they find they are not the first people to arrive. The ship is beset by sand raiders! A fire fight is already underway.

And with this the scene ends.
