Crash landing – Introducing Anakin and Owen

“Anakin! Stop your dreaming! We need to finish these repairs before sunset.” says Owen.

“Just a minute… Did you see that?”

“What?”

“Up in the sky. I think it is a space battle.”

“You need to get your head out of the sky and pay attention to what’s in front of you. Dad will play hell with us if we don’t get this fixed today. I don’t know about you but I want to be able to go out this weekend.”

“No really there is something up there.”

Anakin points up to the sky and Owen looks up to see a ship burning throught the sky.

“By all things holy!”

CRASH!!!

This scene is now open for addition.

The attack continues – Enter the cloaked villan…

Padme starts broadcasting “We are the Republic star ship Commonwealth. We are on a peaceful trade mission. Please identify yourself. Why are you attacking us?”

The radio cracks. A cold dead voice answers. “Stand down and prepare to be boarded…”

Please remember that the next scene is “Crash landing – Introduce Anikan and Owen” so by the end of the scene the heroes need to escape.

The scene is now open for business.

Star Wars 0.1 – On the observation deck

Lord Palpatine and Padme are on the observation deck of a star ship. They are on a mission for the Old Republic. Lord Palpatine is the commander of the mission but it is Padme’s mission. This is the openning of the movie and they are talking about what is going on. At some point the Young Obe Wan Kenobie will join them with news about a ship to their rear.

Remember! In this story Palpatine is a good guy! Don’t foreshadow is eventual evil in this movie. We need to learn to like this guy first.

You may now start making this scene happen.

Star Wars Prequel Game – How it should have been

Like many people I saw the original Star Wars movie a lot of times in the summer of 1977. I was a great fan of it for years after that. Then, like a lot of other people I was greatly disappointed by the edits and prequel movies of ten years ago. Nothing about the prequels fit what I thought they would be about. In an attempt to correct that I want to run a game of what should have happened. I’ll slow this one down so other people can play.

We will start with the first prequel. Let’s call it Star Wars 0.1.

This game comes with present scenes in the order I thought they should come in. The players will provide the details of what happens. The only limit is that you cannot kill any character – they can be wounded or captured but not killed.

All the action of this game takes place on Tatooine. The gist of this movie is to introduce characters, like Anakin Skywalker, and to introduce the villan – the clones. In this story the future Emperor is a good guy, Anakin is a good guy, heck! everyone is a good guy. The purpose of the movie is to get you to like these guys so you will feel bad when things go cockeyed.

The characters are (in order of appearance):

Lord Palpatine: A Jedi politician. Commander of the mission.

Queen Padme: Politician, young unmarried woman, very important. This is her mission.

Obe Wan Kenobi: A young Jedi. Loyal follower of Palpatine.

A mysterious cloaked bad guy: You will learn later in the movie that he is a clone and that clone are evil…

Anakin Skywalker: A hot shot farm boy.

Owen Skywalker: A not hot shot farm boy.

Sand Raiders: Bad guys

Jawas: Plot device guys

Sneaky Bartender: Plot device guy

Old Republic Storm Troopers: Bad guys because they are replacement clones!

The story starts on board a space ship entering the the Tatooine star system. Palpatine and Padme are on the observation deck. Obe Wan will enter the scene with a message of a strange ship behind them.

The scenes

On the observation deck

“We’re under attack!” Introduce cloaked villan.

Crash landing: Introduce Anakin and Owen who see it happen

To the rescue! Farm boys go to help. Sand Raiders introudce first fight.

We need your help. First meeting of Padme and Anakin.

There is a plot afoot. Who can you trust?

Jawa transport. Time for Anakin to talk to Obe Wan.

Intrigue in Mos Eisley. Cloaked figure gains control of the local storm troopers.

The bar scene. “I’ve got a bad feeling about this…”

Running street battle

Capture a ship.

Clone troopers are defeated. The enemy is revealed.

Anakin decides to run off with Obe Wan to become a Jedi.

End credits…

Okay – The way this game works is that one player starts a scene by making up a little of what happens next. The other players may accept this (in which case it happens without a roll) or challenge it and say what happens instead. Everyone may challenge an openning action and may ask the host if they can challenge a challenge. The two players roll 2d6 and the high roller wins. The losers action will get a line drawn through it. Players add or challenge action by making a comment on this thread. If you challenge then roll the dice for both players to find out who wins. We will trust one another to play fair with the dice. Once a turn is resolved another player can jump in with the next beginning action. This builds on the scene. The host will say when we move on to the next scene. The scene are pre-laid out so don’t go trying to change that!

I will open a new blog post for each scene. All you have to do to play is to jump in.

I will take this game slowly so I don’t expect to get through a scene in a day. It may take a couple of days per scene. Enjoy the creative part. Take it slow. Make it fun.

Ode to a Red Shirt – a short game, feel free to join in.

The Star Ship Enterprise is in orbit around an alien type M planet. Captain Kirk has gone down to the planet on an away mission. While Kirk, Spock, and Bones are off having fun, the red shirts are left to guard the base. It is a jungle world, full of incests, liazrds and other creepy crawlies. Bad things are about to happen.

In this game the players represent badness. Since there are no heroes present there is no player representing good outcomes. The red shirts don’t stand a chance! The fun of this game will be to see how creative the players can be in doing in the hapless mooks.

Each turn of the game a player adds in a comment saying what happens next. The other players may jump in and challenge by saying what happens instead. I’ll do a dice roll off, with the high roller winning. Each player may challenge once a turn. If no one challenges there is no roll. The action just happens and we move on to the next player’s turn.

There are three red shirts. The game ends when the last one goes down. I will add up the total number of comments each player makes to determine who wins. So to win you need to steal someone elses turn by a challenge.

I’m going to run three players Bad, Worse, and Worst.

With that let the game begin!

A five minute game – Crash landing!

In this game the hero is on an airplane that is about to crash. There are two imaginary players – Good and Bad. They try to make their goal happen.

“Ladys and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have lost power in all but one engine. If we lose the last one we will be going down. Prepare for crash landing…”

Cluck Crash BANG!!! The plane is going down!

The game is underway.
